Prize winner
Here I Am was awarded Best Feature Film at the ImagineNATIVE Film Festival in October.
Beck Cole was on hand to collect the prize with her own personal cheer squad – husband Warwick and daughter Luka.
Film Festivals round-up
Here I Am screened at the Montreal World Film Festival in the First Features Competition section in August. At the end of September, the film screen at the Vancouver Film Festival.
In October it went to France – the St Tropez Antipodes Film Festival, stayed in Canada (opening night of Winnipeg Film Festival, ImagineNATIVE Film Festival in Toronto) and had a special preview screening in New York at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.
In November it screened at the Mannheim Heidelberg Film Festival in Germany and the African Diaspora Film Festival in New York.
Script Nominations
Congratulations to Beck for her two recent script nominations for the screenplay of Here I Am – in the Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards and in the AWGIE Awards (the Australian Writers’ Guild).
Sydney Q&A
Alice Tynan will host a Q&A with director Beck Cole, actor Shai Pittman and producer Kath Shelper at the Verona Cinema on Thursday June 2nd. Details here.
Message Sticks Film Festival
Here I Am premiered in Sydney at the Message Sticks Film Festival and then toured with the Festival to Brisbane, Canberra and Melbourne.
The tour continues around the country with the Message Sticks Touring Film Festival along with director Beck Cole and actor Pauline Whyman hitching a ride to do Q&As after each screening and to meet the people! Broome 27th May, Perth 29th May, Townsville 3rd June, Alice Springs 7th July, Cairns 20th August, Darwin 23rd August. All details for all venues can be found here.

Beck Cole’s debut feature, shot by Warwick Thornton and introducing a cast of fresh faces. Shai Pittman plays ‘Karen’ who’s got potential and she knows it. After being released from prison she wants to get her life back on track and be reunited with her daughter. With moments of poignancy and humour, the film premiered to a standing ovation at the Adelaide Film Festival earlier this year.
